We no longer use or recommend Kadence. We keep this page with our retired tools so you can see what it does well and why we moved on.
Kadence Blocks added the layout tools the WordPress block editor was missing a few years ago: rows and columns, icons, tabs, accordions, and query loops you could design by hand. We built this site and many client sites with it, and it helped a lot of people make good-looking pages without a page builder.
What it did well
- Flexible row and column layouts with fine spacing control
- Icons, tabs, accordions, and other design blocks the core editor lacked
- Advanced query loops for custom post listings
- A large library of starter patterns and templates
Why we moved on
WordPress core has caught up. Its own blocks, patterns, and Site Editor now cover most of what we used Kadence for, and a site built on core blocks keeps working no matter which plugins come and go. Every Kadence block is content that only renders while the plugin is installed, so leaving it later means rebuilding pages by hand.
Who owns a tool matters
Kadence is owned by Liquid Web, the same company that owns The Events Calendar and LearnDash, and a private equity firm has owned Liquid Web’s parent company since 2023. In May 2026 it shut down the StellarWP brand, sent kadencewp.com to a Liquid Web landing page, and folded other products in under the Kadence name. For a while Kadence’s own changelog page returned an error. The Repository covered the rollout and the backlash.
That’s not how I want the tools under my clients’ websites to be run. I pick tools from teams that talk straight with their customers and treat the product as the point, not as recurring revenue to squeeze. So we’re moving our sites off Kadence and onto core WordPress blocks and block themes like Ollie, one page at a time.
